On March 4th, 2020, a project day on climate and climate change, the Climate Day, took place at Bismarckschule Hannover. The Institute for Wind Energy Systems supported this event with a workshop on Wind Energy Technology.
In the course of this workshop, the students gained insights on the necessity of the energy transformation and the basic functionality of wind turbines. After that, they concentrated on four different questions:
- Why are wind turbines becoming larger and larger?
- Can wind energy provide enough electrical power, and what is the cost for it?
- How big is the acceptance of wind energy in Germany, and how can it be influenced?
- Is there a contradiction between environmental protection and wind energy?
In groups, the students prepared posters on these topics. IWES awarded prizes to the best two posters. The conclusion of Claudio Balzani, who organised the workshop: "That was really fun. The students are surprisingly well informed, interested, and participated really actively. I am looking forward to carry out such a workshop again."
We hope that the students had fun as well and learned a bit of new stuff on wind energy.
